This salvaged kitchen sink was found awhile ago by the client who new she wanted to use it if ever she renovated. Integrated beautifully into the Danby marble countertop and backsplash with new fixtures it is a real joy to clean up. This kitchen was formerly a dark paneled, cluttered, divided space with little natural light. By eliminating partitions and creating an open floorplan, as well as adding modern windows with traditional detailing, providing lovingly detailed built-ins for the clients extensive collection of beautiful dishes, and lightening up the color palette we were able to create a rather miraculous transformation. Love this sink and faucet ... - but what are the fixtures to the left? »
Smith & Vansant Architects PC Repurposing this salvage farmhouse sink left limited options for a hand spray. With some redesign of the back of the cabinet we were able to provide a hand spray with its own lever controls.
Smith & Vansant Architects PC The paint in this house is from the Donald Kaufman Color collection (by Pratt & Lambert). The cabinets are DKC-54, Alkyd Satin. Steve Sass of Jericho Woodworking built the cabinets in this house.
Need help in locating this sink - I am getting ready to build a home later this year, I am in desperate need of knowing where I can get a sink just like this. Please, anyone that may know, send me an e-mail at jshanebrook@yahoo.com. Thanks »
Smith & Vansant Architects PC Hello,
The paint in this kitchen are from the Donald Kaufman Color collection (by Pratt & Lambert). The wall color is DKC-18, Latex Eggshell, the ceiling is DKC-29 Latex flat. The trim is DKC-54, Alkyd Satin, and the cabinets are DKC-16, Alkyd Satin.
Hope that helps!
I love the sink does it come as a single bowl, or only the double sink style. - I like a nice big one bowl sink, otherwise I love the style and everything about this kitchen. »
eeyorebesse It figures, everytime I find something I like, it's a one of a kind and I have to start all over again! Thanks for the response back from both of you, I didn't read any of the description, I got so excited when I saw it I fell in love.
GrampasAntiqueKitchen These sinks come in single basin with integral drain board on left or right. They also come with double basin, the deep basin on left or right. They also came with no apron as shown or with 5 1/2" to 8" aprons. They were available as described in 40-43", 50-53" and rare 60" single basin w/ single integral drain board. Beyond this style was a host of other styles, configurations, original colors etc. I would send anyone who emails me a SkyDrive album showing a variety of styles etc. Ken GrampasAntiqueKitchen.com
How can I incorporate a Youngstown double sink into a kitchen redo? - I want to plan my kitchen redo around my Youngstown sink and metal base. I have yet to see a redesign doing that. Any ideas? »
Suggest you go to your local plumbing supplier or a traditional interior designer and see what they can do for you - you should be able to find something that has a similar feel.

Where did you get the towel bar for the front of the sink? - It seems that a standard bath towel rack might be too far away from the sink for this to work. Yet, I would LOVE to have this option! Thank you! »

Smith & Vansant Architects PC Hello,
I am sorry, our homes are custom designs created to specifically integrate our client's programmatic requirement with their particular site. Our policy has been to not release drawings to protect both the clients privacy and our hard work.
Hope that helps!
Trim work - The post says that the kitchen was formerly dark so I'm guessing that there was dark wood trim and maybe the wood trim extended into the next room?? We are renovating our kitchen and would like cabinets like these but I want to have a nice flow into the adjacent rooms, all of which are trimmed in dark oak. Any advice? »
jdant Thanks for the quick reply! My concern is over choosing a light trim and cabinets in the kitchen that will not blend with the darker trim in the adjacent rooms. I'm feeling forced into staying with stained wood cabinets in the kitchen because of extensive woodwork in the rest of my home. Any thoughts on this?
yvonnecmartin I think that linking the style of the cabinet doors to the other doors in the house is more important than matching the wood. The styles need not be identical, but should be similar. In my house all trim is painted white and my kitchen cabinets are a medium color wood. It works because the kitchen cabinets have a raised edge around the doors and drawers that makes a rectangle whereas the doors in the house are six-panel composed of rectangles.
Smith & Vansant Architects PC These pendants are brass pendants with vintage glass originally from Conant Custom Brass in Vermont. They are now called Conant Metal & Light and they say the pendants are our custom pendant, in a standard finish they are $169.00.
Where did you get the sink? - Is this an old one that was refurbished or is a new one that I could find? I have been looking online for this sink and haven't found any as pretty. Thank you. »
Merry Westbrooks google vintage kitchen sinks. My brother was into claw foot tubs for awhile so he reglazed alot of tubs lol. now he is into pedestal sinks. once you find one look for a reglazer, they can be made as good as new with the right technique!
Architectural Antiques If you're looking for a vintage sink, we've got several! Most were salvaged so they are one of a kind! I've attached an image of the only one we currently have photographed. You can also check out our website at archantiques.com for more information. I hope we can be of some help to you! Shoot us an email at sales@archantiques.com if you'd like some more help or information.
I absolutely love the marble on the counters and particularly as the backsplash! I do have a concern though regarding marble's ability to withstand spills, splatter etc from cooking as we do cook with staining ingredients including turmeric and paprika and use lemons and vinegars extensively... Can you offer any advise on whether we could still incorporate your beautiful design aspect to our future kitchen or consider something else? »
Could you please tell me the brand of faucet you chose? And how happy the customer is with the quality? (I've found similar but only by brands no one I know has ever heard of before) Thanks! »
Smith & Vansant Architects PC Hello,
This a Wall Mount Bridge Kitchen Faucet by Rohl. They make exceptional quality products and the owner is very happy with them - she also has Rohl in the laundry room/dog shower and in her master shower. The model of this kitchen faucet is A1456XM (for cross handles) in polished nickel. One downfall with this faucet was the owner wanted a sprayer. We were able to sneak one in on the left of the sink (behind the drawer slide), with its own controller - both also by Rohl.
Hope that helps!
kaoc Thanks, I need the sprayer as well and have only found it integrated with the spout in the brands Kingston Brass and Elements of Design. I've seen the Rohl and am glad to know that it is worth the expense.
GrampasAntiqueKitchen Caution folks, reglased cast iron sinks are not done with porcelain and they will not last more than a few years of real use. Stick with a worn one you have or find a nice original porcelain finish one. Word to the wise Ken at GrampasAntiqueKitchen.com
Smith & Vansant Architects PC Hello,
This is a Marvin Wood French Casement window directly above the sink (WFCM5640). This is a nice unit in that the sash both open out without anything obscuring the view. The frame size is 4' - 8 1/2" wide x 3' -4 1/8" high.
Hope that helps!

Here's a better look at how the windows were designed around the sink. The countertops and backsplash are local Vermont Danby marble. In addition to the new windows, a carefully planned scheme adds all kinds of lighting options from very bright to a soft glow. It includes a combination of vintage-style glass and brass pendants, small modern LBL lights and a contemporary fabric-covered drum pendant over the table. 5. Reduce your reliance on paper towels. If you find yourself reaching for a paper towel to clean up every last spill and drip, this may be a tough step to tackle. I recommend stocking up on a huge bundle of dish towels and placing them in strategic spots throughout your kitchen. Even if you keep a roll of paper towels in the closet for extra-messy scenarios, if you can use a cloth towel 75 percent of the time, you will be doing great.
In old Victorian kitchens the tea towels were hung on the stove door, but they usually weren't as pretty as these. Treat your tea towel as an attractive accessory — it's nearly always on show.
