This kitchen was formerly a dark paneled, cluttered, and divided space with little natural light. By eliminating partitions and creating a more functional, open floorplan, as well as adding modern windows with traditional detailing, providing lovingly detailed built-ins for the clients extensive collection of beautiful dishes, and lightening up the color palette we were able to create a rather miraculous transformation. The wide plank salvaged pine floors, the antique french dining table, as well as the Galbraith & Paul drum pendant and the salvaged antique glass monopoint track pendants all help to provide a warmth to the crisp detailing. Sink and stove together - How does flow of the stove and sink work on one wall? I am also planning to have a large island and the refrigerator to the left. »
Smith & Vansant Architects PC Here the working trio - sink, stove and fridge are all on the one wall. Our client loves it, primarily for the strong connection to the backyard with its patio and gardens. Typically however, a working triangle is one of the most efficient layouts.

Windows and sink! Love them...help - I'm am very curious as to the fantastic sink you all have- what size is it and is it new or vintage? Also, I adore the windows you have used around the sink area. It look like there might be a wider sill/ledge under the window over the sink. Can't you please tell me where these windows are from....as well as the sink. Thanks so much. »
Smith & Vansant Architects PC Hello,
I assume you are asking the counter material and that is Danby marble on both the counter and backsplash. The quarry in Danby, VT provided most of the marble you see on the Mall in Washington D.C..
Hope that helps!

Smith & Vansant Architects PC Hello,
Yes, the refrigerator is on the same wall as the stove. The counter to the right of the stove in this image serves as a spot to put things you take out of the fridge.
Hope that helps!
entertianing. - ok i am so in love with this and was wondering. i have small kids and so far everything is in the place that i like. how about entertaining though. is it hard to cook and hold a conversation with your friends,. i was thinking this or a small pensula with the stove in it. just wondering »
Smith & Vansant Architects PC Hello,
From what I have experienced while entertaining, the kitchen is the place where everyone gathers. I have attended a party here and the table was used to serve banquet, but most of the cooking was done beforehand. However, if you want to cook and be a part of the conversation with guests I think projects like these, with an island might be more of what you are looking for:

in this particular kitch. design (Smith & Vansant)- what are the rest of the appliances color/material? I see that the oven is black and stinless, walls are very pale & counters too. So did the do all stainless. I have that dilemma- trying to determine what appliance pallette to go with or can you mix and match? My kitchen is small so all black is too heavy. »
TanCalGal Many people mix and match appliances black or white or stainless. I do not like the mix and match look. I say stick with all black or all white or all stainless. I have all black. I think all stainless is a better look, though and I regret my choice.
The drum pendant fixture from Galbraith and Paul over the table helps add to the dining room feel in this multipurpose room. "This fixture adds beautiful glowing color, texture and introduces a contemporary shape," Smith says. Range: Viking
Counter SpaceFocus on your sink when deciding on your workflow. "The linchpin of the kitchen is the sink," says architect Heather McKinney. "That's where you spend the most time, and where it is most likely that you will want either a good view to the outside or a good connection to the social spaces in the house — or both."Aim to have at least 18 inches of counter space on either side before putting in other appliances — with the exception of an undercounter dishwasher, of course, which works perfectly right next to the sink.
