Jeffrey Gordon Smith Landscape Architecture We have many projects going from as far south as San Diego and as far North as Oakland we go the distance for design. Todays technology makes it doable!
ruthtef is this the same as the one in the pictures 18th fairway? whats the black material used in the concrete pit. how can i create this fire place in my own space?
I'm not sure what they used here, but there are fire glass products that look like stone instead of the beads/marbles. I'll attach a picture.
If you don't have experience with concrete then the best course would be to hire a high performance concrete fabricator. You could cast in place but that is a lot of unnecessary material used ( Unless for some reason you are trying to create a large thermal mass).
Most of us will pre-cast in our shops. Most shops cast at only 3/4" to 1" thick. This cuts down on material and therefore weight as well. Thinner casting is possible in the right application.
Since you asked about ethanol in the post I'll include a picture of some of the ethanol burners that are available for our fire tables.
We are all willing to ship our products anywhere but it does involve crating and shipping.
If design and quality are the most important thing to you then find a fabricator you like and have the fire table shipped.
If cost is the most important item then find a local fabricator.
Depending on where you live you may be able to find both.
Feel free to contact me with questions.

fire image - I would love to incorporate your image into a presentation (Trends in Outdoor Living) I am doing for the Shade conference in Phoenix. Is there any way you could please send me this image (approx. 1200x800 pixels is fine) to: kathryn@prideauxdesign.net? I would SO appreciate it. And I will definitely give your firm credits on the image. Thank you! »
This outdoor living room features excellent use of proportion and scale. The height and depth of the visually floating wood structure are related, with each section in equal proportion to the other. The wood wall section is also about two-thirds the height of the white stucco courtyard wall — a pleasing ratio. The U-shape bench embraces a fire table that fits into the opening like a perfect puzzle piece. Finally, the wide wood planks repeat the scale of the diagonally laid wood decking — a nice contrast.
