For the pantry. I am really a cook! So I own lots of appliances. Having lower cabinets perhaps just 18" deep could house some of the ones that I use on occassion, which do not need to be in the kitchen or scullery, ie. meat slicer, icer cream maker, stockpots, waffle iron, bread machine.

Not sure about having cupboard doors behind doors, other than it still looks nice if you preferred to leave the doors open. Love that with the glass lights in the doors, this little space can be storage or display or both.
