Since your example is mortar-less, you will have to high strength anchor concrete to connect the stone with the ties. As the stone goes up will have to block up you insert space for mantel brace. Concrete brick or block can be used to create set backs and to provide anchors for the wood. You might just cut the stone shorter in the TV screen area to create an appropriate finish space for future screen sizes.

Don't forget to run elec. to the mantel (route it into it), connection points for the screen in adding to a conduit for wire and power runs to the screen that can be accessed from below or behind. Always leave rip cord in the conduit for future pulls.
