Like the first example in this ideabook, this townhouse's backyard is a series of terraces that soften as one moves towards the rear of the yard. A glance from the far terrace ...
Terracing is one of the greatest tools in a small space. It allows the gardener to add new soil in raised beds on a concrete base, gives varying light to different types of plants and adds dimension to a small backyard. Adding terraces visually expands a small plot into distinct, separate spaces.
like the concept of using grass patio in conjunction with terraced rock beds off sides to transition from house to first patio level...hmmmm. thinking.
This is more "linear" and "tidy" than necessary, but the mix of textures/colors and the terracing is nice. I like how the patio surface has that walkway in a specific paver pattern within it. The terracing height from patio to first terrace seems kind of like what we'd be after, but with maybe wood steps (like the second terrace has) vs. such blocky cement steps. I don't think we'd need rails on the 3-4 steps either. Anyway, interesting look.
