GreenSpur Creates DC's First Carbon Neutral Home Urban Turf, DC | Apartment

GreenSpur Creates DC's First Carbon Neutral Home Urban Turf, DC GreenSpur, the innovative eco-friendly builders of the CharityWork's Greenhouse in McLean, have just completed their latest carbon-neutral feat: a green renovation of a pre-civil war Capitol Hill row house. Urban Turf DC shows us a glimpse of the neglected historic gem's beautiful transformation. According to Urban Turf DC, bringing a historic home up to date the green way was no small ordeal. Being one of the first completely eco-friendly renovations meant quite a few struggles with DCRA bureaucracy and longer than normal regulation and permit negotiations. However, the long wait and hard work seems to have paid off. The newly renovated home is meant to use 60-80 percent less energy than a normal Capitol Hill home thanks to updates like a ground heating and cooling systems, tankless water heater, solar hot water, and energy efficient appliances. To read more about the home, visit Urban Turf DC's complete article here . According to GreenSpur, there were a number of reasons that the NE home was chosen for their renovation. An important one was historic nature of the building. Many people associate green design and carbon neutral building with new construction. However, Green Spur wanted to show that sound sustainability practices can be incorporated into existing structures, even ones 150+ years old, while still being in a competitive price range. To learn more about GreenSpur's vision for their capitol hill renovation, and to see pictures of the transformation process, visit their website here . We're excited to see what other innovative design GreenSpur will bring to DC this year!
