If you’re dying for extra counter space in your little kitchen but fear an island will cramp your space, consider one with legs. You’ll achieve an extra work station without the visual volume.
All the white works with black counters like ours, too. I'd consider doing a black and white checkerboard floor. I like the style here, esp. the wood ceiling, though it's a bit more farmhouse than our taste.
