madonna13 Hi Shane,
I am trying to find a way to ask you a question about and article you wrote with regards to kitchens. I LOVE the idea of a coffered inspired ceiling with the addition of wood. Our current ceiling has a supporting steel beam running the length of the kitchen ( about 20 feet) so I would like it to blend more with the ceiling and be spectacular. Given that our home was built in the 60's the ceilings are standard and not high. So I did want to add detail to the ceiling without causing loss of height. Could you tell me is the expense of adding this great? Sorry for the rambling I just really LOVE this idea and did not even think about adding molding pieces/wood to ceiling to create design. Thank you again. So glad to see you live in Chicago as do I. I adore this city!!
You did a very good job describing your current kitchen ceiling, however I still cannot visualize how you would "blend" a steel beam into a ceiling design by using coffering unless to completely camouflage it all together. Is the existing beam flush with the ceiling drywall or does it hang down into the space?
When adding value to your home as well as to your quality of everyday life - money is all relative - so what one determines as expensive versus inexpensive depends on the individual asking. If your kitchen ceiling is a point of contention to you and you will not be satisfied until it is the exact way you would like it - any amount of money will be worth the remodel. Now, to answer your question - to hire a designer to do a ceiling design, hire a carpenter to do the installation, pay for the wood molding, paint and additional supplies to complete the entire task at hand - this would not be expensive (depending on the size of your ceiling and the complexity of the design).
Since you live in Chicago as do I - should you like to attain my services to complete this task or to even look at the ceiling for a consultation - I would be delighted. Until then, I wish you all the best fortune that the world has to offer.
Shane D. Inman Thank you for your question. The paint colors used for this home were all from Restoration Hardware. The actual pain that you see I do not have the information for as this house was designed 4 years ago.
