Eggleston Farkas Architects Solar tubes do an excellent job providing lighting during the day, and shouldn't be a problem as far as overheating is concerned. Some models have an additional lightbulb inside so you can also use them as your light fixtures at night. The two manufacturers whose products we've used are Velux and Solatube.
