Traditional First Floor – Chevy Chase, MD

We opened up this galley kitchen in order to allow for more counter space, create an eating area, and connect the space with adjacent rooms. The goal was to enlarge the kitchen without altering the existing footprint of the home. It was also important that we created views into and access to the outdoor garden room.

We used an oyster milk paint finish on the majority of the cabinets and a cobalt blue milk paint on the island cabinets. The cobalt blue ties into the color scheme of an adjacent room where the color is used much more prominently. The grays and off-whites of the tumbled Cararra backsplash and concrete countertop compliment the oyster and cobalt tones in the rest of the kitchen. We incorporated three shades of cobalt into custom diamond tiles which were inserted into the backsplash. A light grayed-mauve was chosen for the walls, creating an overall cool palette for the room. However, the warm coloring of the natural oak flooring compliments the otherwise cool palette nicely.
