I would start by turning table vertically, and anchor with an area rug. Maybe turn the sofa so it faces the deck with fplce to the right.mount tv on wall across fr fplce. Then add a comfortable chair or 2 with Otto flanking the fplce

Ohh, forgot. Add a sofa table behind the sofa.

This is how I have the room arranged right now, minus the area rug. I do have a nice entertainment center that currently houses the TV and peripherals and a buffet behind the couch that matches the DR set. I would just like to rearrange the furniture in some way because the room seems to need a change after 8 years!

Would love another photo of the end of the living room not shown in this photo. If you have and entertainment center and a buffet in the living room it sounds to me that there is an imbalance of "weight" of objects in the room, thus the living room looks "heavier"/fuller than the dining area. Although the designers of the home state that it is a winner and everything was well thought out ... reality is ... houses are lived in and your 8 years in this stunning home needs some improvement. I agree about turning the table vertically but I would also push that table closer to the kitchen. This would mean rewiring/hanging that awesome light over the table. By putting the living room rug under the dining room table you bring color to that 1/2 of the room. Then get a quieter rug (like a grey and black ikat that pulls the colors of the dining room furniture) under the living room couch and chairs as they are strong colors. Change your art work around. You have lots of it. Gather the ones of like colors together and rearrange them for a fresh new look. And then maybe you might like to paint your walls in blocks of colors using each wall or series of walls. White walls are common choices with contemporary homes with lots of wood, but maybe it's time to push your comfort zone. Ben. Moore's "Mellow Yellow" is a great kick of happy. The area at the base of the stairs I would leave open for traffic flow and the wow factor. A sculpture on a table or large sculpture would be look awesome there! Seeing as you have a lot of paintings/wall art, maybe you have such a piece. If the buffet is the height of the couch then turning the couch to face what I think is the entertainment unit and putting the buffet behind the couch would be very dramatic and helpful. It would be closer to the dining area and serve as a special place to put other decorative items (stacks of books, sculptures, figurines, birdcages, bowls of rocks or shells ... whatever is "speaking to you now.) Things like these I change out seasonally so nothing sits still for more than three months. You have a super house! Keep on loving it!
