door from house to screened in porch - What type of door is typically used from the house to a screened in porch? Is it okay to use a slab door, or is a door w/glass better? »
Anne DeCocco A glass door is best because it allows you to see into the inviting porch, expanding your interior space visually. I like the glass doors with blinds built into them--lots of versatility and nice clean lines.
Whitten Architects In some ways a screen porch is much more about the effect that it has on the interior rooms that it is connected to. Large double doors from a living or dining room onto a screen porch allow the interior rooms to feel like they are apart of the porch itself. This extends the living area to the exterior spaces of your home and brings in lots of fresh air. Glass doors still allow some connection even when closed. A solid slab door would seem to defeat the purpose of a screen porch.
Whitten Architects Hello, thanks for your question. These screen were designed by us and custom built by the contractor. In the event of a screen failure, they can be replaced by removing stops. There is no storm window option on this house, however we've done this on other projects. Hope this helps.
Screens. Speaking of bugs, if mosquitos are your state's unofficial bird (I swiped that line from one of you commentors), you may need to transform your open porch or deck into a screened-in porch. Screens are especially appreciated on a sleeping porch.
