Cedar shakes versus vinyl shake siding? - Wondering if you have used vinyl shake siding in other projects and if so, how you would compare them with the cedar shakes. Love the look of this side entrance way with covered porch. Lovely design. »
bdwasc You may wish to consider "Hardie-shingles" or a similar cementitious siding product (check the web) as a 'close' alternative to actual cedar shingles . They come as extremely durable realistic looking pre-painted individual shingles, panels or rows. They look great installed and can be power-washed clean. Skip the vinyl -it'll do nothing for the value of your house.
Is the inside of the door also painted black? - Love this entry - great job! I would love a black exterior door with mullions...but my interior doors are white. Just wondering if the door is also painted black on the inside, or white? If white, how do you get the mullions painted successfully? The grille on my new door pops off for painting. Thanks! »
The home's exterior millwork is substantial, lending prominence to the overhanging porch roof. The support post blends with the overhead beam and probably measures 10 or 12 inches. The designer has treated the support post as a piece of architecture rather than as an afterthought, giving it an important role in the overall composition.
see the stone pathway, this would work well for a path from back door to side gate where path is already started
could get rocks from my favorite quarry
