Whitten Architects Hello and thank you for your question. The distance between the island and the countertop is 3 feet. This project was the complete renovation of an existing home. That being the case we were constrained by some aspects of the walls and structure that were in place. Typically we'd like to see a little more than 3 feet ... something more like 4 feet would be more ideal. 3 feet would be the minimum.
Whitten Architects Hello ... there is another picture of this kitchen from a different angle that shows the microwave better. It is not a typical "built-in" microwave. We tend to prefer providing a slide-in cubbie for microwaves where possible. This makes it easier for the homeowner to slide-in a new microwave when the old one breaks down or something better comes along.
Island Color - Hi... was wondering if you could share what color you used on the island. Am looking for the perfect green for built ins in my kitchen and am having a hard time! Thanks! »
Are there any other pictures of this kitchen? It is exactly what we are looking for. Same layout once we tear down a wall. I would just love to see from another stand point. Thank you so much and Great work! »
saradara12 This is a great kitchen! It looks to be close to the size of our new kitchen space. May I learn the dimensions of this kitchen? I'm trying to get a sense if an island is feasible for us. Beautiful space! A pleasure to look at.
annmarie2 This looks like the overhang is about 9" at the ends and bows out to 12+ in the center. Where possible, 24" is the width allowance per stool.

8. Pendant lights. Low-hanging pendants help a kitchen feel cozy and also provide all-important task lighting. Select models that have a retro feel, with shades of seeded or frosted glass or brushed nickel. If you like, mix the pendants with vintage-inspired sconces and perhaps even a lamp or two to create a collected feel.In this series: How to Find Your Kitchen Style | How to Remodel Your KitchenMore: So Your Style Is: Cottage10 Reasons to Bring Back the Kitchen TableHow to Add Cottage Charm to Your Kitchen

the dining room could be a room like this, right off the kitchen that serves to only hold a very long table. this would have to be in addition to a big island and bench seating against a wall or window.
