Lisa A Good info, Blackfish Homes, I didn't know what code was anywhere really for a flat roof and Canada seems to have higher standards. But meeting minimum building code isn't necessarily acceptable or what people want. R28 is rather low (my attic is R-49 but code is far more lenient).
rich678 May I interrupt this discussion to add a word of caution about spray foam insulation.
Should anyone elect to have spray foam insulation installed, do your homework on your contractor. Spray foam is a manufactured 2 component product which is mixed onsite turning your home into a chemical laboratory. This is the only building product which is truly manufactured in your home. Spray foam can also determine if you can or can not live in your home when it's installed "incorrectly".
To be safe, select a contractor who is certified by CUFCA - Canadian Urethane Foam Contractors Association in Canada, or SPFA - Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance In the USA.
Also keep in mind these products do not have any scientific or medical data to support contractor claims of the product being safe. Use caution... Homeowner insurance policies do not cover bad spray foam jobs and contractor policies do not cover faulty workmanship. A spray foam contractor should carry Contractors Pollution Liability (CPL) insurance. General liability policies will not help you if things go bad with faulty spray foam.
Also consider a before and after indoor air quality test of your homes air before you close up the walls. This test can be completed by a reputable environmental engineer. This will be the best money you have ever spent on your home. Without this test you may be placing your health at risk. Most building contractors are not aware of the health implications from a poor spray foam insulation project. A single exposure from on-site inhalation or dermal exposure could permanently sensitize you for life. Just remember these are powerful sensitizing chemicals which can cause irreversible lung damage. Stay safe and stay protected.
Where can I find that door!? - Just wondering if you could please tell me where you purchased/brand name of the exterior wooden door with the 5 glass lites? I have been looking for one of these for months, (preferably 4 lites) and have had no luck. Is this custom and if so who did it. I am located in northern BC. Thanks so much!!! »
Portal Design Inc This door is actually an aluminum door with a wood foil wrap. It was fabricated by a company called housewarmers, that as far as i know is now out of business. If you are looking for an exterior wood door with 4 lites, or 5 try BC Door. They make custom doors to any specification.
