The classic U-shaped kitchen with a peninsula. This keeps the cook in his or her domain, and everyone else out of the way (technically). A banquette on the back of the peninsula creates table seating rather than counter stool seating. * Squee! Crushing on the cupboards that wrap around into a "banquette." Wonder if this would be a cool idea for maximizing the limited dining room space we have, using an L-shaped bench against the back wall and nearest side to the kitchen, then chairs on the other sides of the table. Too inflexible? Too closed in on a daily basis? Also, we have a wall where the open part of their U is, so this may not be practical... * Also loving the open shelf space over the stove, with the microwave off to one side so it isn't projecting rays at your head while you cook. * ALSO loving that the cupboards on the window wall, with dishes & glasses in them - things guests are likely to help themselves to - are all glass-fronted and echo the window panes, but the other cupboards have solid doors for privacy.
