Base cabinet details - I love this bedroom wall unit. I have a couple of questions about the base or drawer cabinets. It appears that there is no edging except for the front of the cabinets? If correct how much of an edge or lip does the front edge overhang? Are the sides flush with the bottom of the shelving unit? »
Lighting and headboard - Your design inspired our current murphy bed look! I'm wondering how you installed your sconces as my guess is that they're not permanent fixtures so the bed can go up. Do they slide off of something? Are the wires exposed? Also, is the headboard part of the murphy bed or is that a separate piece? What is it made of? »
wongson Thx for the response! Do you have any images of the swing lighting you've installed on murphy beds or links to products that you've used? Were you able to hide the cords or were they cordless? Finally, what did you do with the gap between the wall and the mattress? Lean pillows over it?
Sheryll Lyn I think this is just gorgeous! My bedroom is so very tiny and I was thinking of building open shelving on the sides and I have a window to do shelves over and also thee is a slightly vaulted ceiling to deal with (another reason for the 'open' shelves. I am also thinking NO bottom side tables for a more spacious, open look?
Jeanne Finnerty Hi Patrice, The headboard is upholstered in muslin and has is a very tight slipcover of my design...the print fabric was sewn with a nice wide band of blue linen fabric. Jeanne
Jeanne Finnerty These antique prints were a gift from a friend. The frames are very delicate and hand-painted green and white. There is a thin paper mat that is also hand-painted.
Perfectly complimentary.
If you're blessed with a bit more room but have too much stuff with which to fill it, consider a built-in surround. The footprint here is pretty much the same as that of a bed and two normal nightstands, but provides enough space for a small library of books and other objects. Mounting sconces to the interior continues the clever use of space.

I like the reading lights attached to the side, especially since we'll likely have to build with the chimney behind our bed, so this would help create some light (although unnatural).
The lamps over each side of the bed; the combination of bedside drawers and open shelves. I think the bridge over the bed could have at least two more shelves without endangering the headroom for those wanting to sit-up in bed.
