Curve in the counter around the Sink - Can you tell me why the counterop has that curve around the sink? Is this because the top of the sink is higher then the top of the cabinet or is this for decorative purposes? I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel and I'm trying to accomodate a Rohl sink that is a little higher then i should have for my cabinet (big oops!). »
lauriebtown Thanks For the quick reply Linda! I have this exact problem. I'm Looking at my 24 wide Rohl sink in the box at this very moment after I found out this morning that I only have 8 1/2 inches above the cabinets and I need 10 inches. Granite is not yet installed.I may have no choice but to take 1-inch off of the top of the lower cabinet doors and capture the extra half an inch using the cut out noted in this picture. thoughts? If i set the sink forward by a full 2-inches then it may camouflage the inch I took off of the doors (there are recessed panels on the doors). My other option would be to mount the farmsink above the counter which I prefer not to do. Of course I could exchange the sink for a standard under mount but the kitchen has been designed around the farmsink and I'm pretty attached to it.
Linda Berg Designs Hmmm... Your door style is perfect for trimming... That's a plus... However, you can have the doors remade smaller all together.... take off the existing doors... the installer could cut out the top rail... new top rail will then be reinstalled 2" lower... the new smaller doors will can then be installed and it will be perfect!... That's what I would do... It will cost you the doors and labor... needs to be done before templating... (doors can wait... rail will have to be installed as well as sink... Farm sinks must be installed before template.. Good Luck!
What faucet/brand is this? - We recently remodeled and we dont care for our elkay expensive faucet? We want to replace ASAP, but Im unable to find one that I like. »
Cindy Lewis IKEA has one very similar that has held up well for 4 years now in my kitchen, a lot less expensive for the same look, but Gary is correct, if you use it a lot , better to invest in a more expensive one. We are just two in the house and not huge cooks and the kitchen gets less than average use.
I have a similar sink and wood cabinet setup. Unfortunately water runoff (apparently from the front) is causing the wood under the sink to warp. I see a green dishcloth draped over the side of this sink. Do they make guards specifically for the front of these types of sinks? I was thinking of something a little more heavy(duty), that runs approx the length of the sink and I can drape on sink only during high-use hours (b'fast, dinner). Ideally it would absorb the runoff. Later it could be hung dry or thrown in the machine to clean/dry. Thoughts? Thank you! »
peletto Yes its almost exactly the same setup as the pic. I guess trying to retro-fit drip ails is something I will have to look into. Thank you very much for the insight!
Benjamin Blackwelder Cabinetry While farm house sinks are a great look they tend to do exactly what you mentioned.
The correct way to install a farm house sink is to have a drip edge put under the sink before the install that way the water drips on the edge and not on the cabinet fronts.

Rebekah Zaveloff | KitchenLab You know what, on closer review I see a bit of shine...it might be a granite I recently used that looks like marble, called Mother of Pearl or Taupe Pearl.
The lighting in the picture makes it hard to tell, but I'd look into those granites. They're gorgeous!

Shelly Amoroso, the designer, was kind enough to get back to me. They are Seagrass Limestone- honed. They are gorgeous!

1. Sink and faucet installation. Always have your sink onsite before templating. For standard undermount or drop-in sinks, your contractor should make sure they will fit in the sink cabinet. The sink should be in the right position before template day. The cabinet may need to be altered for the sink to fit, so don't delay talking about this with your contractor. If you are installing an apron-front sink, there can be several different ways to place the bowl. Think about the spot where the front edge of the counter and the sink meet. Some sinks have a notch into which the counter fits. In this photo, the counter was coped around the edge. The way this detail will align with your counter overhang should be decided in advance of template day.As for placement of the faucet, it shouldn't always be centered on the sink. The sink drain may be offset. You may want to center the faucet on a window or other architectural detail on the wall rather than on the sink.
2. Buy a new soap dispenser. Believe it or not, little touches like a soap dispenser are noticed in a kitchen. It's an item everyone uses, so it should be one that you love.
10. Contractor Tips: Countertop Installation from Start to FinishWhen it comes to countertops, choosing the material you want is just the beginning. This checklist helps make sure that everything goes smoothly, advising on things like putting in the sink first, accounting for overhangs and deciding on the right counter height.
Sink is installed before counter tops, then counters measured around sink. this sink has a notch in it for counter installation. Ask how our under mount sink and counters will be married.
