Kikuchi & Associates Sorry, we do not have ground frost here in the San Francisco Bay Area! We do not have a frost line as in other parts of the country. We do have earthquakes though, and this arbor has been structurally engineered to withstand a seismic event per California code. The posts are connected to concrete foundations and the rear of the arbor is connected to the house structure via a ledger beam.
Kikuchi & Associates The siding is 1 x 6 redwood ship lap siding. Unfortunately it is not our home, as we were the designers of the arbor structure and outdoor kitchen/entertainment center which incorporates the same siding material. Our client's home is indeed stunning from both the exterior and interior! A great family very much deserving of a beautiful home!
sandr119 I love your work as I've said before. Any way we can work via email? I am in BH. I have just finished a 11.000 sq. ft house I stuccoed it and I now want to use this ship lap siding. I think it' s just beautiful. Our house is 153 ft. Long
Would you still use 1x6 or 1x8 siding? You are so kind to take the time to answer all these questions.
cubanitasus thank you for responding graciously anyway...appreciate it! i've narrowed down my selection to BM Brilliant White (packaged white) and Chantilly Lace (tinted white). But, Benjamin Moore told me that they are so so similar and the packaged white will have slightly more "hide" (an important factor as we're restoring exterior. So, i guess i'm going with Brilliant White. Thank you...the arbor is gorgeous!!! i want one. :)

Kikuchi & Associates My apologies. We were the landscape architects for this project and do not have access or legal ability to release the architect's drawings
Kikuchi & Associates The area is actually broken into two spaces: a dining area to the right that is 20' x 16' and a kitchen area to the left that is 15' x 12'. A good minimal dining area should be about 15' x 15' minimum, allowing for a table, chairs and ease of circulation around the perimeter.
The floor of the dining area is 1' higher than the kitchen area and at the same elevation as the house floor, providing for an optimal relationship between the house and patio. Ample headroom to the bottom of the arbor is a critical determinant in providing the proper "scale" or feel of the space. We have provided 11' in this case.
Kikuchi & Associates It is concrete. A 6" wide by 6" deep poured in place "mowband" which does allow for easier maintenance. It is about 4 times the cost of traditional redwood or metal dividers, but is much more durable.
screen grab - Screen grabs are how I've been getting pics since Houzz won't allow them to be copied or pulled.. if you have a Mac, look it up in "Help", very easy. »

Outdoor spaces are some of the most important areas of any home. Why not add personality with a pergola? It's aesthetically pleasing and adds a bit of shade for those hot summer afternoons.
