Choose a double-sided fireplace. Install your fireplace in front of floor-to-ceiling windows and you’ll be able to catch a view of the outside as though you’re having a bonfire in your living room.
Make it sculptural. One of the great advantages to using a prefabricated metal fireplace and metal chimney is the ability to place a hearth just about anywhere in the home and treat it as a sculpture.
Industrial. This very utilitarian fireplace seems to take up no room at all with its featherweight design, straight lines and exposed flue. It offers warmth while being easy on a budget, due to low material costs. I'm partial to floating fireplaces in general. I particularly like this one with the aluminum (?) vent and the backdrop of aluminum and glass. I also think it's an interesting touch that the fireplace itself is on the same plane as the floor.

Double-sided fireplaces offer twice the form and functionality of a regular fireplace by providing two focal walls and heat on both sides — sometimes in two entirely different rooms. Since these models require only one flue and one chimney, they can work in just about any home.
