BUILD was tasked with fully updating this neglected home and site to accommodate the owners’ lifestyle and young boys. Relying and expanding on our experience of redesigning and rebuilding mid-century modern homes, BUILD’s updates encompass all aspects of the home and site, including the interior program, systems and finishes. Without adding any new volume, the usable square footage of this home was effectively doubled by thoughtful refinishing and revitalizing of the lower basement level. This design brings a refreshed relationship to the site and landscape as well as the remodeled pool area, particularly from the lower level. This house has been able to maintain its mid-century roots and form, while accommodating a family’s needs and desires for a home built for the current era.

Can you provide details on the fireplace stone? Cladding? I would love to know the manufacturer. »
What type of wood and how are the ceilings treated? - Beautiful job! Just bought a house in Carlsbad, Ca with same layout but ugly colors! What treatment is given to the beams? Are the beams stained or painted? I am horrible with colors, so can you provide me with the scheme in the ceilings?
Your time and help are appreciated! »
everything seems to work... beams... color of woods... elevation of ceiling...openess of windows and usage of corner.... lights.... on ceiling and pendencies
the ceiling contrast in wood is nice (instead of white with wood, it's wood with wood). sandy's not a huge fan of a super contrasting ceiling (e.g. the super dark wood beams with white)
I think I like a flat brick wall without design.....although the space we are putting it in is much smaller and the size of the mason work will be much smaller...
Like the richness of the colors used for their beams. Like the use of large molding at the top of the fireplace and top of the drywall to continue to the effect of the beams. Do not like the solution they came up with for overhead lighting- don't like the multiple lights.
