Along one of the Mission District’s most cosmopolitan blocks, an Italianate home is expanded with two substantial yet stealthy additions. Peeking out above the restored front façade, a new third story bedroom level hints at the comprehensively transformed spaces within. The project integrates modern design, bountiful natural light sources, high efficiency systems, and repurposed building materials with new and original hand-crafted detailing.

Pocket door - What is the height/width of pocket door? »
Chr DAUER Architects This was an existing single leaf pocket door 5'-4"W x 7'-0"H we restored the door leaf and flush oval pull and upgraded its concealed overhead track and carriages
I like the juxtaposition of styles and would like to know the style/ profile name of the door casing please - Im trying to merge a more colonial traditional doorway with mostly modern furniture and I need to find a tasteful casing like this! »
Chr DAUER Architects The door casings shown here were original to the house, just prepped and repainted. That said this casing and plinth block profile should be fairly easy to source in new material. Here in San Francisco, SF Victoriana has profile #14-19 which is very similar

I think this photos shows a slightly grayer tone on the couch wall because of how the shadows fell during the photoshoot.
This black-painted pocket door contrasts beautifully with the white-walled living room in the foreground while transitioning to the wood-paneled dining room in the background.
The light-filled rooms of the main floor balance modern
design and historic context. All original doors were painted a warm, satin black/brown, providing a distinctive complement to the restored woodwork of the dining room, as well as the painted trim throughout the rest of the living areas.
Here, painted, raised panels float within the frame of the door rather than being glued. This approach allows for expansion and contraction of the five panels.More: 16 Dream DoorsDeep Pockets: Doors With PanacheDutch Doors: Charming and Versatile
