Beautiful structural detail. We're planning (building as we speak) similar screen system - and have a few questions:
- how do you hide the screen moulding? I can't see any in the photos, and you don't appear to have mounted the screen on the inside face either, which would be kind of kludgy. The clean look with no moulding is great.
- how to attach screen between the doubled posts?
- full foundation I assume because you are attached to the house
- bracing perpendicular to house wall would come from attached to house. Bracing parallel to house face comes from triangular section below roof?.
- I assume all joints in polycarbonate roof are above the roof joists.
- anything you'd do differently next time?
If you can answer - great! if not, no problem. Great design. »
Mark Schwarz Wow. that was way more detail than I ever thought you'd give. I owe you guys. I don't mind sending you a cheque or paypal for the advice just to cover your time. Say a cheque for $100US for your time. No obligation or warranty implied. I really appreciate the advice.
We kind of figured slab on grade as opposed to posts buried. Thats being poured now (concrete truck is in the driveway). The bracing and screen system had me really mystified. Metal bracing is great idea, and looks
I'll send you some photos when we're done. Thanks.
Studio One-Off Architecture & Design Thanks anyway, no problem. Really. We enjoy it, and we share your excitement. If the concrete is pouring, you'd better get out there!
Studio One-Off Architecture & Design Thanks for asking. It's Polygal, which is a polycarbonate sheet product. It's often used for greenhouses, but can also be used for interiors and it's inexpensive. It doesn't have much insulating value but that's fine for a porch.
