The design of these glasses is inspired by the fretwork of a c.1770 Charleston, South Carolina chest-on-chest in the collection of the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts at Old Salem Museums Gardens. Often called "Elfe Fret" after cabinetmaker Thomas Elfe (1719-1775), this distinctive motif based on the designs of Thomas Chippendale (1719-1779) found its way in to the shops of many of Charleston's leading craftsmen on the eve of the American Revolution. Made in France. Set of 4
