thirdstone inc. [^] The quartz (2cm) countertop of the island was placed directly on the base cabinets. The other areas were placed directly over 3/4" substrate creating a reveal between the base cabinet and the u/s of the quartz countertop...The reveal was then finished using a high-gloss plastic laminate to match the door fronts
"Blizzard #2141" series from the Caesarstone line for this project. You may also want to consider the "Pure White #1141. Thickness is 2cm (3/4") w/ 'square' profile and yes, it is flush with the cabinet doors.
The pulls are the aluminum "Blankett" handle (1-15/16") from IKEA. They have since added other sizes ranging from 2" up to 30" length. There's a photo of it on another post found here.
Where is the backsplash from? - How much did it cost or it? I read through some of the other quiestions, and if im not mistaken, the backplash is just cabinet panel covers? I searched it up in IKEA, and its over $100 for a single panel? »
upper cabinet, bottom cover panel - It looks like there is no cover panel under that middle cabinet. Is it just white melamine? Also, I am getting an install next week and the Ikea installer says I will need a 3/4" deco strip above and below all floating wall cabs, but I though a 1/2" cover panel would work. I didn't really want the deco strip. You seem like the expert. What is your take? THX> :) »
thirdstone inc. [^] Hi Lindy - Firstly there is no requirement for 3/4" deco strip.
The u/s of the white upper cabinets is finished in a thin high-gloss white laminate. This should be readily available from any laminate supplier. ex. - http://www.arborite.com/en/Products/Snow-White in GL (Gloss) finish. This should match the high-gloss white cabinetry and will conceal all the seams where the bottom side of the upper cabinets butt up to one another.
Hope this helps!
Sounds like things are nearing completion - Would appreciate seeing the finish product!
Is there a built-in fridge in this kitchen? - If yes, did you have to customize the ikea cabinets to accommodate the built-in? We are looking to do a very similar thing with our cabinets. Looks great! Thanks. »
thirdstone inc. [^] Hi Kflorence - Sorry for the late reply...
Yes there is a Fridge but you won't find it in this photo but rather the attached image below. (left of the cooktop)
The Fridge is a panel ready Thermador 36" w X 84" high. We then had the same high-gloss material matching the kitchen applied to the front. This requires a lot of skill so make sure you hire someone who knows how to do this.
IKEA has a panel available in 36" width so there was no need to cut on at least 3 sides. Fridge side panel is also the same material as the cabinetry (high-gloss white).
kflorence You are wonderful!! Thank you for your thorough answer. We are looking at the same cabinetry and a 36 in thermador, so this is great information. The kitchen is beautiful. When I showed it to my husband he said that we should definitely go with the Ikea cabinets. Thank you!
The high-gloss gray cabinets from Ikea set off the white and give this kitchen a nice visual landing place that white cabinets would not provide. This gray is about as achromatic as it comes.
The kitchen's double-galley design allows two people to cook in the kitchen at once. The small prep sink area in the background adds more counter space and hides kitchen appliances.
