A growing family and the need for more space brought the homeowners of this Arlington home to Feinmann Design|Build. As was common with Victorian homes, a shared bathroom was located centrally on the second floor. Professionals with a young and growing family, our clients had reached a point where they recognized the need for a Master Bathroom for themselves and a more practical family bath for the children. The design challenge for our team was how to find a way to create both a Master Bath and a Family Bath out of the existing Family Bath, Master Bath and adjacent closet. The solution had to consider how to shrink the Family Bath as small as possible, to allow for more room in the master bath, without compromising functionality. Furthermore, the team needed to create a space that had the sensibility and sophistication to match the contemporary Master Suite with the limited space remaining.
Working with the homes original floor plans from 1886, our skilled design team reconfigured the space to achieve the desired solution. The Master Bath design included cabinetry and arched doorways that create the sense of separate and distinct rooms for the toilet, shower and sink area, while maintaining openness to create the feeling of a larger space. The sink cabinetry was designed as a free-standing furniture piece which also enhances the sense of openness and larger scale.
In the new Family Bath, painted walls and woodwork keep the space bright while the Anne Sacks marble mosaic tile pattern referenced throughout creates a continuity of color, form, and scale. Design elements such as the vanity and the mirrors give a more contemporary twist to the period style of these elements of the otherwise small basic box-shaped room thus contributing to the visual interest of the space.

Feinmann, Inc. Hi trick_em and thanks for your comment. We love this award-winning master bathroom, too! The color on the walls and trim is Benjamin Moore Dove Wing (Matte on the walls, high gloss on the trim). Thanks for your interest!
Feinmann, Inc. Hi and thanks for your interest. The homeowner bought the towel rack but we found similar ones on Overstockdeals.com. One made by Pegasus and a few by Moen. Hope that helps....
Feinmann, Inc. Hi Sheila. The trim and walls are the same color: Dove Wing by Benjamin Moore (OC18). A semi-gloss was used for the trim and the walls have a float coat. Hope that helps. We love this bathroom!
Sheila P. Thank you for your time and reply. I too have a large bathroom with marble floor and counter with dark walnut vanity. This bathroom is an inspiration.
Feinmann, Inc. Thanks for your interest! The floor is Carrera Marble and the patterned tiles are Opera Mosaic by Ann Sacks. In the shower Nero Marquina border by Ann Sacks was used.
How big is that shower? - I want a big shower in my renovated master bath. This one looks like a great size, not so big as to be cavernous yet not small by any means. »
Feinmann, Inc. Hi and thanks for your interest. The shower is 4' x 4' but with the 1' bench inside, it is actually 5' x 4'. Hope that answers your question.
Feinmann, Inc. Hi and thanks for your interest. It is a custom design manufactured by Showplace cabinetry. It is made of Lyptus wood, a green, fast growing renewable resource. The stain is called Russet which takes the wood tone more in the dark brown direction. Hope this helps.
What other locations in the bath do you use the Ann Sacks Mosaic tile?
Also, what color paint was used in this bathroom?
I love everything about this bath and would like to recreate it in my own home. Any and all information that you could provide regarding this bath would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you. »
