Our clients struggled with the fractured layout of their traditional Tudor style home in Weston MA. Typical for the time period in which it was built, a series of unconnected rooms and a kitchen too small for the gathering of the family or entertaining guests was literally cramping their style. The homeowners were seeking to reimagine the space, making room for larger gatherings while maintaining the intimacy of separate individual spaces. A truly collaborative process between the homeowner and our design team resulted in a blending of formal and casual design transforming the space into a bright and flexible living area that allows for both cozy family dinners or a party for a crowd.
To open the fractured space, the Feinmann team removed two walls between the kitchen and the family room. A bright, casual dining area with functional built-in seating anchors one end of the room. Upgrades in appliances and ample work surfaces make this a true cooks kitchen. The painted cabinetry along the perimeter of the kitchen keeps the space feeling bright while the rich, dark brown lyptus wood cabinetry on the island adds warmth and contrast. The black walnut bar invites guests to linger while keeping them out of the busy cooking area.
Sunlight, pond views and an elegant raised coffered ceiling in the seating area off the kitchen create a cozy place to relax, take in the view of the pond or catch a game on the new custom wireless audio flat screen television. What was once a divided floor plan is now a truly connected space thanks to the ingenuity and vision of the Feinmann design team.
Feinmann, Inc. Hi and thanks for your question. The homeowner worked with someone else on the soft furnishings so we don't have the answer to your question.
Feinmann, Inc. Hi and thanks for your question. That is somewhat of a challenging question to answer because of all of the variables involved in custom design/build work. Do you live in the Boston area? Also, this was part of a larger project that involved reconfiguring the space of several small rooms into one larger space. Hope that helps.
Can you help me with dimensions in a design layout like this? - Would a seating arrangement like this work in a 7' x 4' area? Can you provide help with design? »
Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Congratulations on the beautiful job you did on the living room/dining room banquette. I think it's repetitious to build another one in their family room, but it can be done. Below are 2 drawings, one with a 48" round table and the other with a 60x36" table.
What will this banquette be used for? Perhaps we houzz designers could come up with a different solution if you told us what you're wanting to use the room for and how many people will be using it.
guardwife I am planning a new home build and would like either a u shaped nook as in the picture above or a l-shaped nook with a french door on one-side. My table is 90.5"W x 37.5" D x 30"H. The bench seating will be approximately 20"D (with sloped back so actual seat is about 17") x 18"H seat. What dimensions are needed for this space? Thank you for your help.
Feinmann, Inc. Isn't it stunning? It is a custom blend of ceramic tiles, made to order by a fabulous company based in Oregon. Contact us for more information. Thanks for your interest!
What does the exterior of this addition look like? - We want to do a bump like this on our kitchen but we are concerned about making the bump blend with the rest of our traditional colonial revival style home. The bump would be on the side of the house. »
Feinmann, Inc. I do not have any exterior photos to post of this, but it blends well with the existing house. My advice would be to hire a design professional that has proven design experience. It is important that you work with someone who knows what they are doing and has an aesthetic that you appreciate. Each house presents a unique design problem, and so it is crucial that your designer is not just a builder, but someone who has the requisite design experience to design a beautiful addition to your home. After you have solved this issue, a builder that is a master in their craft is critical. Good luck.
Dimensions of breakfast nook - What are the dimensions of the breakfast nook? Really love the look of this and want to know how wide and deep to design the room. »
Feinmann, Inc. These are custom made bench seats. You should hire a skilled crafts person if you go this route as it is critical to a polished result. The oval table will be a little less convenient and comfortable unless you build the benches to match the curve of the table. This could make for some additional visual interest, but again would require a professional designer and crafts person to execute it properly. Good luck!
Rooftop making with bedroom & bathroom with a view - Sir, i am planning to make room along a bathroom on my rooftop with garden & bathroom open too , kindly please help me with some more images , thanks your freind faithfully Lalit »
What is the brand and name of the paint color you used on the walls in the nook area?
Also, can you tell me the manufacturer and name of the pendant light used? »
If space permits, choose a table that seats at least six. Most days, there may be only two people dining at your table. But don’t forget about the potential for entertaining. If this is your only eating space, you’ll want to accommodate your guests appropriately. Besides, a larger table immediately projects a more sophisticated feel than a casual two-top.
2. Open the shades and let the sun in. Instead of flipping on lights during daylight hours, try opening the drapes, pulling up the shades and letting Mother Nature do the work.
