scaplan If I may be so bold... I am assuming you are asking because it would be completely impractical for it not to be next to the sink, but the sink is actually hidden behind the flowers on the counter. The sink you see on the right is just a prep sink. How fantastic is this kitchen, by the way!!
Counter depth - Looks like the counter on the far side of the peninsula is set back. If so how much? Did that allow you to access the uppers on other side of peninsula? »

This beautiful kitchen has farmhouse touches like butcher block, wooden chairs, Shaker details and latch hardware, yet it has a clean modern look due to all of the light and white. What brings this image home is that it looks like someone is busy chopping vegetables and arranging flowers in there. In other words, it looks like it's used, in a good way.

Interesting use of compact space for a kitchen and partly-separate dining space. Traffic-routing seems sensible. Extra sink near table but out of main workspace is clever. Note in comments: whole space is the size of my LR.
peninsula with narrow island in kitchen. not sure this would give you anything other than more bottle necks for crowd flow. Also, I think this looks dated. What do you think?
