Spacious Lake Michigan Beach House eclectic

Spacious Lake Michigan Beach House

While much of the house has an arts and crafts feel the lake side is more modern due to the large glass areas, including two sections of operable curtain wall, one each in the living room and dining room. The three triangular dormers were initially proposed to have clerestory windows and serve like skylights. Concerns of both cost and how to best control light led us to scrap the idea, but we kept the dormers for attic ventilation and to break up the massive roof plane. The shapes are inspired by sailboats on the lake and functionally sere to shed water away from the bedroom balcony doors.
