Island size and clearances - Love your cozy kitchen. I am trying to get an island in my kitchen, but I'm just shy of the standard clearances. Can you tell me the width of your island and the clearance you have on both sides, and let me know if you are happy with the spacing. Thanks »
Mahoney Architects & Interiors This island is about 3 feet in width and we do have plenty of clearance on the sides and end. Crowding an island just doesn't work. We usually allow at least 3'-6" clear
Good efficient layout if we keep kitchen where it is, but we are looking at a much larger room in the house that can work for a larger kitchen as it feeds directly off our master and cannot be used for another bedroom. Already have a large den.
Kitchen - can add open shelving storage below kitchen island. If you can't salvage the tile top at the island, you could do a full butcher block top and it would work with the pink tile.
I like the quirky feel and the different levels and surfaces add visual interest and seem useful-- butcher block for cutting, marble for rolling out dough.
Ikea cabinets could potentially be made to look like this -- custom-ish. If we put up crown molding, and slidey panels on hinges, we'd have a protected-from-dust spot to store flat stuff.
