San Francisco Townhouse Facade

This front was broken into smaller, vertical elements to bring a more intimate scale to the home. The shingled element is twisted towards a hillside view, and thereby expands the entry path as you pass from the street at the driveway, through a small gate around the twisted element to the front door set behind the trellised, square upper wall openings you see on the left in this photograph.

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Bud Dietrich, AIA added this to Good Houses Are Good Neighbors Too
Neighboring homes can be different. After all, who would want to live in a world where everything and everybody is the same? But please provide an overture to the surroundings. Maybe it's in the materials and colors, which don't shout out, "Look at me." Or maybe it's a window shape that's traditional, evoking something about what was there before.
