Karrick They are actually just drywall with aluminum channels between sheets. So... One layer of drywall on the studs. Karrick The lighting is by a standard fiber optic light engine.... with side emitting cable on the top of the mass... and just securing the end of the cable with no fixture at the top of the fireplace 'frame'. I think if this were to be done again... it probably could've have been achieved with LED rope and LED button lights.

bbfill Thank you that was really helpful. I actually found it in a 1" x 2" size at a very high end tile place for 16.00 a sq. ft. These stones are smaller, which I like too. I will check it out at Home Depot.
