lefty47 Yes, the above mentioned is good advice BUT- I hate TV's above fireplaces. It usually puts the TV up too high and makes for uncomfortable viewing , so if you don't have to, I would say don't.

ranger519v Uncomfortable viewing is FUD. I have have our 64" above our FP and we love it. Unless you sit up straight like a stiff board, your natural position when sitting in a comfy couch, lounge chair, or love seat is at an UP angle!

TV/Fireplace - add a mantle and/or recess the tv into the wall to provide a barrier. Make sure it doesn't exceed about 90degrees after the TV and fireplace are running for about 45 minutes.
