Elissa Chin Hi. I painted my sunroom with Abbingdon Putty and White Dove trim too about two years ago! Do you know what wall colors were used in the adjacent rooms? I don't think I want to use the Abbington Putty in the living room, hall stairway and dining room. Do you have any idea what colors were the adjoining rooms? Any suggestions for me would be appreciated.

Karen H To me it looks like a 1x6 with a piece of base cap on top. They are caulked together and when painted it looks like one piece. I would estimate it to 7".

Legato. Quite the opposite of staccato, legato has the notes "tied together" such that one moves without separation into the next. While architecture depends on articulation and distinction (staccato) to create distinct rooms and lessen the overall scale of a building, architects use elements such as trim to tie and bind the pieces together.

2. Chair rail. Moving up the wall from the floor, the next piece of trim after the base is the chair rail. Functionally, this trim item protects the wall finish from any furniture that gets placed against the wall. Though most commonly installed about 36 inches from the floor, a chair rail can be installed just about at any height. The key issue is how the chair rail splits the wall into horizontal layers and getting those proportions correct.
