I this particular case, the Myrtle is planted only along the front edge of the bed and the remaining plantings are behind the ground cover.

The surface is patterned bluestone, which is sitting on a compacted (8-10") of QP (quarry process) and 3-4" of pea gravel with open joints (1/2" +/-). This picture was taken 10 years after the install was originally done. Then there is a concrete paver soldier course, which is wet set.
