Christopher Blue I have used an 8 foot post for mine. You can use rebar or dowel rods to hold the bottles. Dowel rods and rebar come in different sizes so you want to make sure you get one that is strong enough AND fits in the bottles you are wanting to display. Use a spade drill bit that is the size of the rod and drill into the post at the angle you want. Insert rod and place the bottle. If you are using a post from the hardware store, you probably want to stain or paint it.

I can't think of anything more whimisical in the garden than a bottle tree. They are more typically seen in the Southern garden and are really beautiful when the sun sets them ablaze.
