What is the height of the cabinet above the standard cabinets? - We installed our kitchen cabinets with some head room, but then we started using it to store the food mill and other tools - and because it gets greasy, we put them in big plastic bags, which is not attractive at all. Doors like this would at least hide and might protect from the grease. »
International Kitchens Copied from a previous question about the countertops. "They are nothing fancy or expensive. They are actually formica from IKEA. I wish they were soapstone...maybe someday!"
Functional Conceptz for Interiors From what I can see the color behind the refrigerator is definitely not white! It appears to be an off white or some sort of cream!
The little touches here are great. The orange tea kettle and mixer. The colorful retro glasses. The old-fashioned shade of paint for the cabinets. Lovely.
Mixing finishes is not really new, nor is it the sole province of the higher end of the market. The lived-in and welcoming appearance of this kitchen asks the viewer to sit down for a cup of coffee and piece of pie. And really, at the end of the day that's what a kitchen is for.
White appliances are a great choice for a vintage-style kitchen as well. This eclectic room is full of bright colors and quirky touches; adding stainless appliances would not work in this retro mix.
The oldest trick in the book: Paint the cabinets a vintage color and replace the hardware. The rustic island makes it all look intentionally shabby chic. Very cute.

Ah! I love the rustic island and the use of color! As much as I like white kitchens, it's ones like this that make me smile, so I guess I just need to decide what color would make me smile the most on my new cabinets!! Cooking is fun, so my kitchen should be fun, too!
