How does this hold up over time? - I absolutely love this piece. I've been looking for something to get my sister as a wedding present and think this would be amazing. I'm concerned however that it might not be maintainable, ie dusting, fading, do the photos stay looking new through the years? Don't know if you've had this piece long enough to answer but I'd greatly appreciate any info you can provide. Thanks so much!!! »
Whitney Lyons I'm writing on behalf of Kimberly as the contributor of this article. When I saw the piece in person it looked absolutely beautiful and pristine. They have only been married a few years, so I'm not sure what it will look like in twenty. I would imagine if you hung it away for lots of natural light, it wouldn't not fade and that a soft duster would do the trick! Sorry if that didn't help answer your question. It is such a great statement piece - would be a wonderful gift!
A large mosaic-like photograph of Matt and Kimberly greets you in the entryway. The couple had the image enlarged and cut into squares, and it served as their wedding guestbook. Friends and family left messages for Matt and Kimberly on the back of the photos, and each piece is numbered so it would be pinned to a specific spot in the grid. The sections of the photograph have been secured with nails to part of an old fence, and can easily be taken off to so that the couple can read the personal messages on the back. Matt found a piece of wood outside of their house which works perfectly as a hat rack.
If adding a large photo isn't enough for you, you can cut it up into a grid and place it on the wall one piece at a time. The dimension is lovely, and the slight shadowy effect is interesting to the eye.See more about this house and this wall
Last, consider adding a personal touch, something that will make you smile each time you see it — whether it is as small as a special shell or stone or as large as this amazing photo mosaic.Style notes: Matt and Kimberly Weishoff created the mosaic shown here by blowing up a favorite photo, then cutting it into sections that were used as an alternative to the traditional guest book at their wedding (read the how-to here).More:Welcoming and Stylish EntrywaysEntryways Take a Seat
