Samuel H. Williamson Associates This is a kind of clover, Trifolium repens purpurascens. Up close, each leaf is purplish with a bright green edge. It can be a bit aggressive when it's well-watered and happy. It dies down to the ground in winter.
Samuel H. Williamson Associates It's a pearly gray. I can't tell you specifically what paint was used, since this was something selected by the clients long before we were involved with the project.
Black is not a new idea. When she was mourning the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria ordered doors in the British Empire to be painted black. This had a lot of influence on American homes then and now. Now we see traditional homes with a black front door and white trim as classic Americana.
