What about door and entry into bathroom? Waterproofing needed? - Love the wet bath and want to do it with 5 ' x 5' bath. I'm worried about needing a special door there and tiling out beyond the room. Were these concerns in this space? Thanks for your help. »
· Comment · 3 months ago
The Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellyn No, this was not really a concern with this space as the shower spray is mainly contained within the shower area itself. A spatter or two may get onto the toilet, but not much more than that (unless the kids get a hold of the hand spray, haha!)

area needed for stool? - I have the same size bathroom that I want to remodel with an additional 24 x 22 space in the bathroom in addition to your space. Will the stool fit in this 24" x 22" space. »
· Comment · 4 months ago
The Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellyn By stool, are you referring to the toilet or the bench seat? A toilet must have a minimum of 30" of width and 21" in front for proper clearances. In this bath we had to bump into the adjoining room (you can see the transition at the wall) in order to achieve the proper dimensions.

Can I put a sink, toilet, shower into a 4ftX6ft space? - I have a closet in my basement that is roughed-in for a bathroom. I had a contractor ( from a bathroom company) come and look at the space to see if it was possible to include a shower in this 4ft x 6ft area. The walls are concrete and there is no way to go beyond this space. He said that it's so tight that it would be virtually impossible to put a toilet, sink and shower in unless perhaps I considered a wet-bathroom. I had never heard of one, but saw yours, which I think is great. Do you think I could have a wet-bath in my small area? »

Custom Home Planning Center There is one way you could pull it off. Since in Arab countries a hand shower is generally found next to a toilet as opposed to a bidet you could think of the toilet as a shower seat. Locating the valve and water supply in such a way that a hook on the side wall for the hand shower was high enough to have the hand shower used as a shower.I would most likely cheat a few more inches out by adding a header in the wall opposite the toilet to allow the wall cavity space to be added to the bath withe.

How do you get the the floor to slope to the drain on a doorless shower »
· · Comment · 9 months ago
The Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellyn The drain is sloped just like a typical drain in a custom shower base, however, in this instance it was notched into the existing floor joists and extra structural support was added. It is a bit tricky, and I highly recommended hiring a competent qualified contractor with experience doing these types of installations. You will also want to check local buildings codes, and if structural work needs to be done you will most likely need the help of an architect or structural engineer.

MAKING DRAIN WORK - How do you make your concrete foundation/ floor work after removing an inset type shower unit. »
· Comment · 10 months ago
S. Thomas Kutch Okay..... well, the biggest problem is going to be your existing slab. It's flat. You're going to have to resolve the drainage issue with a sloped base. It's doable with a power chisel, some hydraulic cement, and a thin set water proofing membrane system for you finish tile to mount to.
Now, concerning your wall substrate. I'm guessing if your house is not relatively new, you have sheet rock on your walls. At best maybe some green board (moisture-resistant sheet rock). Most current codes will require a cement backer board for tile in wet areas (i.e.Durorock ) This would go over your wall water proofing membrane.
BeautifulRemodel.com Hi Rainy44, As S. Thomas has correctly pointed out, you'l need to create a slope for the new curb-less shower drain. In our area local bldg code requires that we create a 1/4" PF slope to the drain, so the only way we can realistically do that is to remove the existing slab. See the attached photos which show the demo'ed slab, new sub-slope concrete and finished floor. Its a lot of work but creates a great finished product.

How does the bench work? Where did you get it? - I'm doing this in our tiny bathroom and would love a bench in it. I'm I correct to assume that the wood on the shower wall is used as a bench? How does it work? Was it custom or did you purchase it somewhere? Thanks for the help! »

The Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellyn Yes it is a flip up teak shower bench. It was purchased by the homeowner online. They are fairly easy to find via Google search. Good luck!

The Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellyn These are actually from Dal Tile. The same tile is used on the floor but in a darker color and smaller size for safety and to help with the slope for the drain.

K.O.H. Construction Corporation We have a customer that has a 150 year old log cabin that we're putting a master suite and ensuite. The addition will be a mix of modern elemants on the interior. I may gets some arguments here but, Delta make a doorless unit that measures 4' x 5'.
The pan slopes inward to the drain. This unit has been installed many time and customers like it. This customer asked about the spashing issue and my answer was, Yes, you will get a little water on the floor but knowing you and your wife it won't be there long. The point is a little water won't hurt, just wipe it up.
Creative Ceramic & Marble The only thing I don't like about the prefab units is the drain had better be located exactly right or there will be a problem. As for the water on the floor, what I usually do for my "curbless customers" is even in bathrooms where it won't be a "wetroom" per se, I'll still waterproof well out into the bathroom from the shower's edge,, just to make sure that no water will get under the shower's membrane or ruin the substrate under the tile in the bathroom itself.

Great solution for the tiny master bath in the house we are about to buy! Still has character, functions like it needs to, just has zero storage, but that's okay. Hang towels on hooks, put a basket under the sink for extra tp & hand towels/wash cloths, hang medicine cabinet with large mirror. Just condense the things we usually store in the bathroom
