i am impressed with the stained ply - this is the nicest i have seen. was there a special grade you specified to get the subtle grain on the birch ply? could you share the stain you used? nice work, thanks so much. »
designideas4me Is that an inexpensive product? europly? Where is that sold? where is the grafite powder usually sold and is it easy to apply? Please explain how powder stain is applied. Does the poly top coat protect it?
chadbourne + doss architects 'Europly' or 'Appleply' is more expensive than standard plywood because you can leave the edges exposed rather than edge-banded. It's widely available. graphite powder is sold in art supply stores. It is hand rubbed to the desired tone. The polyurethane top coat sets it and protects it, though we would not recommend this finish for use in wet areas. A similar effect can be achieved for much less time and cost with a semi-transparent wood stain. Thanks for your interest!
chadbourne + doss architects Hi. The wall/cabinet material is stained birch plywood. The top and handrail are blackened steel plate. Thanks for your interest!
