Dwelling on Design, Deborah Derocher Ipe wood is typically a deep rich color and is best known for its resistance to rot and pests. If you did not wish to color it deeper then I would suggest using a Thompson water sealer to protect the coloring, although not typically necessary with this wood. Ipe is often used indoors as well. It's a beautiful wood that will not disappoint if you chose to use it... however it is costly per square foot than other outdoor typical woods.
