DB: What if we took the house out to the front setback, added rolling gates at the driveway and had something similar to this along the driveway that served as the front entrance gate and also had bridges going into the front house to the second floor. Also roof orientation on the entry canopy /Hallway would be correct for solar panels.

Love columns in a courtyard, in Oakland, maybe add columns and do large glass sheets in between for protection, but use to connect to independent shed/room/office, with stone path and grass or moss in between
