Markay Johnson Construction You can use honed or polished marble in showers. There are pros and cons and any material you select for a shower will always need maintenance. The glass window was installed with brackets and then sealed around all edges. Marble is a porous material and a special waterproofing system was installed with this shower because of its use as a steam shower and the materials used. Best, Markay Johnson Construction

Curved ceilings require smaller tile. This steam shower is one of my favorites on Houzz. I love the glass panel, slab bench and curved ceiling.Remember that shower floors need to be presloped before waterproofing to ensure that any moisture that gets under the tile can drain. Before tiling starts, this need to be checked with a flood or leak test.Tip: Ask your builder for a 72-hour flood test. You'll get a lot more attention to detail from your tile crew if they know their work will be checked for a period of 72 hours versus 15 minutes.

A steam shower or steam bath often looks like any other bath or shower with the exception that you can fill the room with a thick fog of steam. This is the evolution of the steam shower. Disguised as a regular shower, this space can be transformed into a steamy retreat. Ask your designer to make sure you have room for two in there. A sloped ceiling, the right amount of lighting and the ability to cool off under the showerhead can upgrade an average steam room experience to a great one.Tip: You will want to be able to warm the bench ahead of time, so plan on a way to heat it or to have the shower spray hit the back of the bench wall and seat. A handheld fixture near the bench works perfectly for this.
