This is very similar to how I want it to sit against the five foot retaining wall we are building. This is also similar in style, although I want as little wood on the exterior(none!) as possible. We'd like to keep it as low profile as possible in order to not obstruct the house view.

what do you think of this stone. It ties in colors from Ipe, grays and coregated materials and board / batten siding. Nice transition

House siding? Also like cement patio done this way for permeability - do mexican pebbles on periphery and in-between cement slabs. Also like retaining walls.
