Quezada Architecture The counters are granite. I can't remember the exact name of the stone as different suppliers use different Italian names but it is basically absolute black with an antique brushed finish. It has a uniform rough texture (rougher than flamed) to get away from the glossy granite look. Great stone on every level except when you are trying to write on a thin piece of paper at the counter!
Quezada Architecture It is redwood but please see my answer under the photo of the dining room for more details... someone else just asked the same question yesterday.
Quezada Architecture Kalwall was definitely cheaper than the breezeway glass. In the breezeway (which was installed 7 years earlier) we didn't need to be weatherproof and wanted the look of a very thin layer of glass rather than the thickness of an insulated panel. The breezeway glass is low iron so it is white rather than green and it is a sandwich of 2 layers of glass with a white translucent layer in between to get the look. It also has no mechanical fasteners as we wanted it completely clean from the top so it we used structural silicone to hold it to the steel (enough for uplift in an 80 mph wind zone). Long story short... Kalwall is cheaper. Thanks for the question.
bdoggiedog Appreciate it. I am in Texas; summers get pretty hot so trying to balance the need for light for an outdoor patio/ courtyard , will definitely consider this
The Kalwall ceiling at this home provides a luminous kitchen space that has to be wonderful to work in. The black painted structure, echoed in the color of the counters, provides a monochromatic Mondrian-like quality to the ceiling.
The ceiling/ roof is a product called Kalwall. It is usually used in more commercial projects such as airports and schools but we needed a way to get morning light to our west exposure kitchen so we went with the translucent panels. It is also fairly economical as they come as insulted panels so all you have to do is provie the structure in this case exposed steel beams.
this is amazing. I like the ceiling more on each photograph! Also, the wood paneling is a wonderful way to keep wood on the walls but updating the mid-60's feeling...
