The property’s farmhouse and two equipment barns had once been used as an intimate hunting getaway. As the owner’s family grew, however, the need for hospitality outweighed the need for tool storage, and additional lodging took precedence. Following the design of Widler Architectural, one of the old barns was replaced by a residential chalet featuring 3,300 sq’ of modern living intertwined with rustic aesthetics. The five-bedroom, 4.5-bath home offers a third-floor study that overlooks a stunning great room. This 700-sq’ room boasts 30’ ceilings, walls clad in 100-year-old logs and a natural stone fireplace serving as a focal point to the space. The entire home is heated with in-floor, radiant heat and has a semi-covered deck over looking a pond.
With close collaboration between the client, Widler Architectural and the builder, the Allen Farm is now a coveted example of how modern design can blend seamlessly into a pastoral and historic landscape.
