A circular office tower is surrounded by a formerly flooded basin of reinforced concrete. Due to the strong growth of algae and the resulting high maintenance expenses, it was the wish of the owner to develop an alternative low-maintenance solution for this area. The design should not only meet functional criteria, but also establish a reference to his business activities and the regional context. The problem was solved by the conceptual overlapping of several layers of meaning:
First of all a recognition value was created by the transformation of the company logo to a red pool of water on a black background. Since the owner trades with Japanese electronic equipment principles of feng shui were also involved in the design. Flowing water stands for wealth and commercial success. The transformation of the water basin was also based on the philosophy of a Japanese dry landscape garden. Rocks and loose chippings convey a minimalist design approach. Plants were sparsely used. The local reference was created by the materiality of the rocks that were used. The proximity of the company building is characterized by spoil piles from the coal mining in anthracite tones.
