Glass - I don't see any channels or brackets. How is the glass attached to wall and floor. The glass company I work with does not recommend using channels hidden behind tiles due to water definitely leaking and contesting damage and then having to break tile to fix. »
How are the outside corners tiled? - We are renovating our master bathroom and our designer and contractor are suggesting a schluter (metal strip) on the outside corners. Not too excited about it and haven't seen it down anywhere. »
beacon800 My friend did all her bathrooms in porcelain and used the schluter edge finish on everything and it looks good. I am going to use the schluter edge for my shower niche. Hopefully it will turn out!
what was the source for the shower glass? Does it need to be full ceiling height for stability or safety reas - what was the source for the shower glass? Does it need to be full ceiling height for stability or safety reasons? »
John Whipple - By Any Design ltd. The glass in this installation goes to the ceiling to help support the door. Since the door is hinged off of the small panel this floor to curb setup gives the shower's glass assembly strength.
Without the curb to ceiling set up an extra floor cleat would be needed or perhaps anchoring the glass panel's bottom with the tile. We did just this in this barrier free shower build here in North Vancouver.
what are the measurements of this shower? - It looks similar to what we are planning - trying to figure out if things will look crowded on the wall with all the fixtures. Thanks! »
For a clean, continuous look, use the same material on the floor and shower pan. This floor expanse is only broken up by the curb.
Tip: Shower floor tiles should be no larger than 6" x 6", and 4" x 4" or smaller is recommended. There are two reasons for this: One is so there are enough grout lines underfoot to provide traction for slip resistance. The other is that you need small tiles to cover a sloping floor.
Invite nature to be your guest. "This master bath is in a summer home on a lake, and the back of the house faces the woods," says Nora Schneider of Nora Schneider Interior Design. "The shower faces an entire wall of windows overlooking the woods, and I wanted to invite nature in as an evergreen guest.""The shower tile resembles bamboo, and the glass floor tile echoes the look of sand. The openness of the entire house is meant to invite nature in, so a framless shower was the obvious choice."
